Après-Ski Weekend

In early February Tom and I took our first trip alone together since Isabelle was born. Although we really missed our little girl, we knew she was in good hands (THANK YOU Mom and Dad!) and it was so nice to get away and have some quality time together. While pregnant I had visions of a ski weekend in Colorado – swooshing down the powdered slopes, eating at a fancy restaurant, drinking champagne, and soaking our sore muscles in a private hot tub. Even in my fantasy I knew I would be sore after a long hiatus from skiing!

Well, it turns out that version of a ski weekend was: A) Very expensive and B) Not at all practical for a 3-day weekend.

Instead we decided to drive to Michigan and it turns out that was the best decision we could have ever made. Denver was hit by a really bad storm that weekend and we would have been stuck in Chicago.

Here are the highlights:

Resort - Boyne Highlands Resort is located about 6 hours from Chicago and it was worth the drive!

Snow - They had it, a rarity in the Midwest this winter.

Runs – There were plenty of runs (over 50) and even tubing which was a blast!

Convenience – I’m still nursing, so I had to go back to the room a lot. It was so easy! I dropped off my skis at the ski check, walked to our room, took care of mommy business, got my skis and hit the slopes.

Food – Breakfast was included in our package and it was delicious! Actually everything we ate there was really good. They also had popcorn, cookies and hot chocolate throughout the day.

Entertainment – There are two bars at the resort and there were bands playing at both. We also went on a carriage ride, albeit through the parking lot, but it was still fun!

Heated Outdoor Pool – They turned the outdoor pool into a giant hot tub! It was awesome and I think that might have been the only reason I was able to ski day two.

Tom and I will definitely be back!
Up we go!

Ready to hit the slopes!

On our romantic carriage ride...through the parking lot.  Still fun!
